Module 7: Academic Integrity & Performance

Plagiarism

What is plagiarism?

The practice of copying down other's notes or research and called it their own

Common type

  • Direct Plagiarism- It being noted down word by word without giving credit to the person he took it
  • Self Plagiarism- Occurs when the student submits his own work multiple times or mixed it without the permission of the person he need to submit
  • Mosaic Plagiarism- Occurs when the student borrows some phrases from another author without quotation marks and it's unacceptable if it with intention or not
  • Accidental Plagiarism- It happens when the person is misquoted the quotes he took

How to prevent?

i)     Planning your paper
  • Consult with instructor- You should ask your instructor about the assignment he gave when you didn't understand
  • Plan your paper- You need to know how to put the information that you get from other sources
  • Take effective notes- You need to organize the sources that you get by taking down notes each time you took from other sources
ii)     Writing your paper
  • Cite sources- Even if you are unsure, always cite your sources
  • Make it clear who said it- When you mix the ideas, make sure who said it
  • Paraphrase- You recite other person's idea and state it in your own words. Changing few of the words is NOT paraphrase
  • Analyses- Not every source is correct and in fact most of it could be wrong. You need to know where they get their sources and this could also avoid the plagiarism

Module 2: Goal Setting

Assalamualaikum wbt. My name is Azim and this program interim will be filled with courses that must be taken for all of UiTM student. One of the courses is UED 102 which is study skills that like it's called, skill in the study. At first I thought it's a useless courses that I must take but then it's really helped me to study. Last week, all of the student (part 1) is being lectured other than supposedly by group because most of the lecturers that being assigned to handle the designated group is busy. During the next week, the courses progress as usual and glad I didn't sleep after Sahur because the class at 8.15 am (stay awake to do other homework because I brought the same style of study from school). Module 2: Goal Setting & Learning Management System Goal setting may involve establishing specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bounded (SMART) objectives, but not all researchers agree that these SMART criteria are necessary.
